Interesting to see how you transition away from the corporate wardrobe Hanna! I went to a more relaxed wardrobe when I gave up work but as a carer, this drove my selections. I now find I want to smarten myself up a bit and this helps a lot. Thank you xxx

I thought you’d pick the beige mini rectangle. That’d definitely be my choice. That colour is so hard to find and it looks so good on the mini rectangle (and not all Chanel beige looks good but yours is the one I like). It doesn’t even look as good on the bigger classics. Couple of years ago I was looking for a mini rectangle in either black or beige but no luck (a year later ended up getting a black mini with charms). Maybe one day I’ll try getting the beige mini from the pre-loved market.

My sister always says that you pay for the brand, not the product. She has a bachelor in marketing.

Come on, stop with the Chanel price increase complaining. Most of us are not their targeting population. Chanel is doing the right thing. The company is targeting the really wealthy where money is not an issue. They want to preserve their position instead of becoming a midrange business. It’s not their problem that an average Joe office lady who lives paycheck to paycheck can’t afford it. It is not Chanel’s problem that a lady needs to choose between Disney vacation or a Chanel bag. She is not their clientele. It is what it is. Affordability and worthiness is all relative to your wealth. A 10% increase on a $10k bag means nothing to the ultra rich. They don’t need to cut back on anything to buy that Chanel bag. There are so many more options for the average consumer. This is not the end of the world.

i guess the extra money they got is coming from the prices that has gone up more than is accepted or going in tme with inflation

I've been using the Good On You brand directory to learn about how sustainable and ethical different brands are. It's sad that the luxury brands typically rate just as low as fast fashion brands. But what I have noticed is that the Kering group brands are a bit higher (on the It's a start -level) than LVMH group brands (on the Not good enough -level). Of course there are many different ways to look and measure the sustainability and ethical practices, so the Good On You ratings are not the final truth, but their directory easy to use and has good coverage and to me seems trustworthy.

Many many years ago when i was in China shopping with my family, one of the shops took us to the "back rooms" where they had counterfeits and the people there said they also worked for these luxury houses. Thats how they get the patterns and sometimes even the canvas/leather pieces and were ablebto source them to make the counterfeits. She told us that the craftsmanship is the same, only difference is not shipped to italy to be stamped. Which really goes to show the huge markup is really for that stamp and the experience. I feel like "luxury" now just means the illusion fantasy for the average people who are willing to pay even after yearly increases. "Luxury" just means they can market themselves better than the smaller businesses and charge 10x for it. Its so sad...

Wow… I first heard about Armani a few months ago. Did not realize other luxury brands were investigated too. 😔 Chanel must do the same…decrease quality but the just made record profits. Can’t be all because of the price increases to account for the increased profit margins.

Hermes was also under scrutiny not so long ago. Will you also get rid of your Hermes bags like you so quickly did with your Lady Dior? 😅

I feel confident in claiming that most brands, no matter if luxury brands, fast fashion brands or mid-range brands, all or at least most could be accused to exploitation and lack of safety devices. We all know it's about the money, and getting investors the biggest profits. We complain about luxury brands doing this, yet we support by buying cheap fast fashion clothes and goods. These brands, too, have huge problems with paying poor salaries, huge safety issues. We consumers can complain, but, as Hannah says: we all participate in these exploitations. It seems the only way to correct these injustices is to stop buying goods. We are an over-consumption society. Then we use it once and dispose of it, the trash going into landfills in poor and developing nations. It's all horrible.

Both Dior and Chanel are in the middle of scandals that are 100% their own fault. It’s all about exploitative cheap labor.

No doubt Dior/LVMH was willfully blind. But frankly, it’s possible the suppliers were operating under chinese labour standards that they are used to back home, probably hiring chinese (legal and illegal) immigrants. It’s common for these chinese manufacturers to open up production sites overseas so the products can sport that “made in italy/france” label. In this situation, the chinese suppliers operated under rules that they and their workers were used to back i china, i.e. did not comply with local rules and got caught. Pretty sure LVMH was banking on these suppliers to internally “arbitrage” labour laws to minimize costs.

We KNOW that companies like LV are doing this too. There are too many quality issues to believe otherwise. So sad and disappointing.
